AWS and OpenAI Unite in $38B Partnership

The partnership will enable OpenAI to utilize Amazon EC2 UltraServers, featuring hundreds of thousands of chips, and scale to tens of millions of CPUs for its advanced generative AI workloads. As OpenAI co-founder and CEO Sam Altman notes, “Scaling frontier AI requires massive, reliable compute.” This partnership strengthens the broad compute ecosystem that will power the next era of AI innovation.

AWS’s best-in-class infrastructure will serve as a backbone for OpenAI’s AI ambitions, providing the necessary performance, scale, and security to support OpenAI’s vast AI workloads. The partnership will also enable OpenAI to efficiently run workloads with optimal performance, from serving inference for ChatGPT to training next-generation models.

Earlier this year, OpenAI’s open weight foundation models became available on Amazon Bedrock, bringing additional model options to millions of customers on AWS.
